Ensure you have the required Jira Administrator access before installing or you can request your Jira admin to install the SQL Connector for the Jira application on your behalf. Visit the SQL Connector for Jira page, click "Try it free," and then select the "Request this app" link. Your Jira admin will receive a notification and can proceed with the installation process for you.

If you are Jira Admin, go to the Jira Cloud Apps and navigate to the Explore more apps section.

Click "Start free trial" in the pop-up window to begin the installation process. You will receive a notification once the installation is successful.

After installation, you can easily access SQL Connector for Jira from the main navigation menu by going to Apps and proceed to SQL Connector for Jira.

You also have the option to install the SQL Connector for Jira directly from the Atlassian Marketplace. Select your hosting option (Cloud/Data Center) and click "Try it free" to initiate the installation.

Step 1: Create a Jira API Token

Go to Account settings and select "Create and manage API tokens" from the Security tab to create a Jira API Token.

Next, name your API token and press the "Create" button, make sure to copy it, as you won't be able to see it again.

Open SQL Connector in Apps and check and save the Jira API token.

Add the copied API token to the Jira API token. To store the token, click "Validate & Save."

Step 2: Create a Data Source in SQL Connector for Jira

1. To create a data source in SQL Connector for Jira open the app and click on the "Create Data Source" button, in the Title section of the data source creation page, enter the Name and Description of your data source.

2. Optionally, click on the "Share settings" button to specify the users or groups who can access the data source. You can select relevant user Groups and Users. Click the "Save" button to apply the changes.

You can apply filters using the following options in the "Filter issues" section:

1. All - if you want to export all issues.

2. Select by JQL to construct a special request and filter data using JQL.

3. Basic filter option applies conventional field filters.

To configure it, select "Issue filter." Choose filters for projects, issue types, statuses, and timespan ranges for issue creation or modifications to perform basic filtering. To confirm your choice of filter, click "Apply."

In the "Select Fields" section, you have several options:

  1. You can enter a field name in the search field to quickly find and add specific fields for exporting.
  2. Use the magnifier icon to search for the required item and add it to your data source.
  3. Clear the search field if you want to start a new search.
  4. To organize the data effectively, you can sort the issues by their names, IDs, or types by applying View options.
  5. Explore the tabs that display a list of Jira fields and tables available for exporting.
  6. If you want to include all fields within a particular subsection of Issues, you can choose the "Issues" option.
  7. Use the checkbox next to the desired field to select it for exporting.

In the "Apply" section, you have several options for managing your edited data source:

1. Click the Save button to create a data source with the applied changes.

2. Clicking the Preview button allows you to review the source name, description, issue filters, and export items before finalizing the changes.

3. By clicking the Preview ERD button, you can view an Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) that visually represents the tables and fields selected in the connector.

4. Selecting Close option will exit the data source creation page without saving any changes made.

When you choose the Preview button, a pop-up window will display all the modifications you've made, allowing you to review and verify their accuracy before proceeding.

Similarly, the Preview ERD option presents an ERD showcasing the tables and fields selected in the connector.

Step 3: Export Jira Data to MariaDB

To export data into the database use the SQL Connector for Jira, find the data source created in the previous step, and click the "Export data" button next to it.

You'll be prompted to setting up a New connection. Within the ensuing window, please enter the required details: Title, optionally you can leave the Comment, Database type (in this scenario, it's MariaDB), Host, Port, Database name, enter Database Schema, Username, and Password. Validate the connection and click on the Save button.

Click on the Export data button once again to start your data export. During the data loading process, the button status will change to Cancel export, allowing you to cancel it if needed. The data source can have different statuses: "Not Exported", "Exported", "Loading", or "Error" (in case of an error, you can click the information icon near the error message to see what went wrong). When the status updates to Exported, you can proceed to MariaDB to access your Jira data.
